Thank for your interest in applying to be a member of Shadow Mountain Gallery Artists’ Co-op. Founded in 1990, the gallery has approximately 25 artists representing a variety of fine art and fine craft media. This is an artist-owned gallery. Each artist has agreed to contribute their time and effort to operate the gallery and to maintain a professional representation of the gallery to the public.
Jury applications may be initiated online or by email. Upon review of applications, the Gallery will require applicants to bring 4-6 representative examples of the work they would plan to show if accepted. These will be reviewed for quality, technique and execution of finished work. All art submissions will be juried by the SMG Jury committee and members of the gallery who create artwork in the same media as the artist being reviewed. Final acceptance will be based on a review of the examples presented by the applicant and the ability of the prospective artist to commit to taking a active role in helping to staff the gallery and to participate on various gallery committees.
Major points in Exhibition and Sales Agreement:
Initial minimum 12 month commitment is required with a 6 month probation period.
If you terminate your association with the gallery, prior to your one year commitment, you will be required to pay the remainder of your term (rent equivalent) either in cash or your artwork.
Each artist must pay a one-time $75 membership fee.
An artist pays an annual $10 internet fee; artist’s name and medium are listed on the gallery web site.
Exclusivity requested for a 5-mile radius.
With gallery Board permission, Artists may exhibit at local art fairs and special limited exhibitions within the 5-mile exclusivity area. The gallery requests our business cards be available so attendees know your work is available year round at SMG. Monthly artist rental space fee: $45 per month for a full space (2d-wall space, 3d-shelf space) or $22.50 for 1⁄2 space. Rent is due on or before the 10th of each month. Rent may be paid in advance.
All work displayed must be of the quality consistent with the work that was juried.
Each artist is required to maintain up-to-date inventory control and change displays to feature new work throughout the year. The work requirement is 1 1⁄2 days per month. Additional time may be requested to maintain business operations.
Attend a one day training session before working in the gallery on your own.
Be an active participant on a committee of choice (Jury, Display, Marke’ng, Special Events, etc.) which may involve additional meetings, discussions or tasks.
SMG retains a 35% commission of the retail sales price of each piece.
Artists are paid by the 25th of the month for the previous month’s sales.
The gallery collects and remits all sales tax.
The gallery insures for loss and damage to work.
